‘Senna’ to make its terrestrial première on ITV in October

The award winning documentary Senna is to make its terrestrial première on ITV this month, it has been confirmed today. The film, directed by Asif Kapadia, will air on ITV on Sunday 13th October at 22:20.

The slot is fairly good, but it does mean that it will run past mid night and be littered with adverts. Unfortunately, I couldn’t imagine a Formula 1 film being given a 21:00 slot, so I think this was the best slot possible.

  1. Poor slot to be honest, and the fact it’s full of adverts means I’ll give it a miss and just watch it on DVD instead

  2. “ITV seems an odd place to go”

They were, presumably, the ones prepared to pay the most money. I think it is a poor slot, too. Those likely to watch have been to the cinema, seen on DVD, or via Sky…or even by Torrent. Adverts don’t bother me, so much, for Senna as it might for, say, Rush, since that is a film that needs to maintain the pacing it was made with.

I disagree with this because I don’t view Senna as a Formula 1 film, exclusively. It is much more than that and, if they put in a Saturday night, post X-Factor slot, I think ITV would surprise even themselves at the figures for it. I think it being a documentary is more the cause for its slot, than the subject matter.

  3. Its a shame its on ITV, all the ad breaks during its showing, but as ITV is the biggie for motorsport these days I can kind of understand… Ayrton Senna in one word… LEGEND !
